12 Hot 7-Seater Cars for 2024 and How to Choose One
The 7-seater car has always been one of the most popular car categories in Hong Kong, and almost every brand has 7-seater cars in its Hong Kong model lineup. However, buying a 7-seater car is not a person’s decision but the whole family’s decision. In addition to considering handling, factors such as interior space, seating comfort, and features affect the comfort level of each passenger. In this article, Kwiksure recommends 12 7-seater cars and shares the things to consider when purchasing a 7-seater car, as well as the differences between driving a 7-seater car and a regular private car.
6 Key Considerations in Purchasing a 7-Seater Car
The biggest difference between purchasing a 7-seater car and a private car is that, in addition to considering handling and fuel consumption and such, you also need to consider the needs of each passenger. The following are 6 things to pay attention to when purchasing a 7-seater car:
1. The Vehicle Type Determines the Amount of Space
Currently, 7-seater cars are generally divided into three types: MPV (e.g. Toyota Alphard), Compact MPV (e.g. Honda Freed), and SUV (e.g. Nissan X-Trail). Among them, MPVs have the most interior space. However, due to their smaller body, the space in the third row of some models is actually rather limited, making it suitable only for children and uncomfortable for adults to sit in. So it is best to try sitting in the car before making a purchase decision.
2. Number of Seats/Variations
Different car models can have different numbers of seats. For example, in MPV models, the 7-seater cars have two separate seats in the middle row, but you can choose to change it to a row of three seats, making the car capable of seating 8 people in all. On the other hand, if you change the middle row of SUV models from 3 seats to 2, the total seating capacity will be 6 people. Also, pay attention to how the seats can be configured, because foldable seats allow convenient luggage placement, etc.
3. Power Sliding Doors
Power sliding doors are important for 7-seater cars. When there are more people getting in and out of the car or when picking up and dropping off children, the driver can operate the power sliding doors from the driver's seat. Moreover, since 7-seater cars are larger in size, the tailgate can also be quite heavy, making vehicles with power tailgates more attractive.
4. Low Platform for Easy Access
In addition to transporting children, 7-seater cars also need to take care of the elderly. Models with a low platform design are worth considering as they make it especially convenient for boarding and alighting. Some car manufacturers even install large handrails on the side of the doors, which is very thoughtful.
5. Comprehensive List of Passenger Amenities
Pay attention to the equipment for the middle and rear rows, such as whether there are separate air conditioning vents, whether passengers can adjust the airflow and temperature themselves, and also consider the availability of charging ports, cup holders, and other amenities, all of which can enhance passenger comfort.
6. Safety Considerations
When frequently transporting family members, safety is of utmost importance. In addition to active/passive safety systems for the driver, the number of rear seat airbags and the rigidity of the vehicle body should also be considered.

Tips for Driving a 7-Seater Vehicle
A 7-seater vehicle is larger than regular private cars, and if you are driving a 7-seater for the first time, it may take some getting used to. You are advised to pay attention to the following 7 things:
- Pay attention to the height of your 7-seater vehicle. When entering or parking in a parking lot, check the maximum height allowed by the parking lot first.
- Due to the height of a 7-seater vehicle, to prevent accidents you should avoid taking turns at high speeds.
- A 7-seater vehicle is longer than a regular private car. When making turns, allow more space, especially in narrow parking areas.
- Pay extra attention to the passengers in the third row, especially children, to prevent accidents.
- When parking, use the radar sensors or cameras to check the surroundings of the vehicle to prevent collisions that may cause damage to the vehicle.
- The tailgate of an MPV is larger than that of a private car, so make sure there is enough space when opening the tailgate.
- Lastly, when the vehicle is fully occupied, the conversations inside the car can be rather loud. The driver needs to be more patient and tolerant.
