HKSAR Passport Renewal & Replacement|Required Documents
If submitting the application in person, you should bring the originals of the relevant supporting documents. For applications by mail or drop-in, you must submit photocopies of supporting documents (except the Hong Kong Identity Card) together with the application form, photo, and cheque. The photocopies should be on A4 paper (210mm x 297mm), and submitted copies will not be returned. When collecting the passport, you must present your identity card and the originals of the supporting documents for verification.

Method 1: In Person
Before submitting your application in person, you must make an appointment via GovHK, the Immigration Department mobile app, or by calling 2598 0888. If you do not have an appointment, service is provided on a first-come, first-served basis according to quota until full.

Method 2: Document Service Station / Personal Document Service Station
Eligible applicants can use the Document Service Station / Personal Document Service Station to apply for an HKSAR passport. These stations are not for applications involving lost, damaged, defaced, unusable old passports, or changes to personal data on the passport; such applications must be submitted in person at the counter.

Method 3: By Mail
Applicants can mail their application to the following address, but note that the Immigration Department will not accept insufficient postage mail. To ensure proper delivery, applicants should pay sufficient postage and indicate a return address.

Method 4: Drop-in
Except for applications involving lost, damaged, defaced, unusable old passports, or changes to personal data, applicants can drop their application into the drop-in box at any Immigration Office that handles travel document applications during office hours.
Method 5: Internet or Immigration Department Mobile App
Eligible applicants can collect their passport in person at designated Immigration Offices, Chinese diplomatic and consular missions, or Mainland Offices, and can apply via the Internet or Immigration Department mobile app (except for applications involving lost, damaged, defaced, unusable old passports, or changes to personal data). For children under 16 or unmarried applicants aged 16 or 17, the consenting parent or legal guardian must accompany the child/applicant to collect the passport and sign the application form.
HKSAR Passport Renewal & Replacement|Photo Requirements

The photo should show your full face and clearly display your facial features.

The background of the photo should be white.

The photo size must be 40mm (W) x 50mm (H), with the head from chin to crown measuring 32mm to 36mm, and there should be adequate space above the head.

For online or mobile app applications, the digital photo must be in JPEG format and under 5MB in size.
HKSAR Passport Renewal & Replacement|Processing Time
The Immigration Department undertakes to process applications within five working days after receiving all required documents, fees, and photos (working days refer to Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays). For children under 11 who do not hold a Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card, the processing time is within ten working days. Generally, applicants can collect their new passport on the next working day after the Immigration Department has completed processing. For non-in-person applications (e.g., drop-in), please allow an extra two to three working days for processing. If the application is due to loss, damage, or changes to personal data, processing time may be longer.
HKSAR Express Passport|Application and Notes
If you intend to apply for an express HKSAR passport, the application method is similar to a normal passport application. In addition to completing the HKSAR passport application form (Form ID 841) and bringing the required documents, applicants must apply in person at one of the above 7 Immigration Offices. In addition, applicants must provide a written explanation and relevant proof to apply for express service.
Note: The Immigration Office will only consider express applications for those with urgent reasons (such as unexpected business trips, funerals, etc.), and not for reasons such as travel. Processing time is not specified but depends on the case. If approved, applicants must collect their passport at 1/F, Immigration Tower, 61 Po Yap Road, Tseung Kwan O – Travel Documents (Issuing) Section.
