Guangdong Vehicles Entering Hong Kong: Implementation Schedule, Application Method, Fees, and Driving Range
Since the introduction of the 'Hong Kong Vehicles Northbound' plan, the response has been very positive. The Hong Kong government has recently indicated that it is considering shortening the reservation period to facilitate travel between Hong Kong and Guangdong Province. At the same time, details of the 'Guangdong Vehicles Southbound' plan have been revealed. The plan will be implemented in two phases. Here’s a breakdown of the implementation schedule, application method, fees, and driving range for Guangdong vehicles entering Hong Kong:
Guangdong Vehicles Southbound: Phase One
The first phase of the Guangdong Vehicles Southbound plan is expected to be implemented next year. Initially, a quota of over a thousand vehicles will be allowed. Vehicles traveling southbound will only be permitted to park at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge artificial island parking lot and will not be allowed to drive directly into the Hong Kong city area to avoid adding extra pressure to local traffic. After parking at the artificial island parking lot, travelers will need to transfer to other local transportation to reach their destinations, such as the airport or the Hong Kong city area. The Hong Kong Airport Authority is also constructing over a thousand parking spaces with automated parking technology at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Hong Kong Port artificial island to support the Guangdong Vehicles Southbound plan, with these facilities expected to come into operation next year.
Guangdong Vehicles Southbound: Phase Two
The second phase of the Guangdong Vehicles Southbound plan is expected to relax restrictions, allowing vehicles to drive directly into Hong Kong. However, the exact implementation timeline for this phase is still under discussion, and many details are yet to be finalized. It is anticipated that the operation will be similar to the "Hong Kong Vehicles Northbound" plan. The Hong Kong Airport Authority is currently discussing specific traffic flow and details with mainland officials and will also build two additional automated parking facilities at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Hong Kong Port artificial island to accommodate vehicles coming from Guangdong and Macau.
Guangdong Vehicles Southbound: Application Method and Fees
According to Secretary for Transport and Logistics Lam Sai-hung, the detailed implementation method for the Guangdong Vehicles Southbound plan is still being worked out and has not yet been officially opened for application. The fees are also not yet finalized and will be announced by the relevant departments in due course.
Guangdong Vehicles Southbound: Driving Range
Based on the current information provided by the Hong Kong government, vehicles entering Hong Kong under the Guangdong Vehicles Southbound plan will only be allowed to park at the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau artificial island in the first phase and will not be permitted to drive directly into the city area. Although the second phase will relax the restrictions to allow vehicles to enter the city area, this is still under study and no implementation schedule has been announced.
